Kids First CDC in Chesnee is one of five childcare centers in Spartanburg county to receive a professional outdoor
learning design through a grant from DHEC. The program, called Preventing Obesity by Design, comes out of the North Carolina State University Natural Learning Initiative and combines child development science and landscape architecture disciplines to create outdoor learning environments that contribute the the physical and cognitive health of young children.

At Kids First, director Cindy Rollins said the kids are really excited about their new future play area. The main component of their design, a curving pathway that ties all the other elements together, was recently installed. As construction continues, staff and children will see the design come to like. Click here to see the full plan for the Kids First site.
